Day 1 Arrival Kuching
Arrive at Kuching Airport, meet with our representative and transfer to Kuching Hotel. Kuching – which mean ‘cat’ in Malay – is the capital city of Sarawak, situated at the banks of the Sungai Sarawak. There are a few interesting museums, a lively weekend market and historical attractions, like Chinatown’s collection of beautiful colonial-era shop houses and Chinese temples.
Day 2 Kuching - Bako National Park
In morning, departy from Kuching for a 45-minute drive which passes through mangrove forest with its unique nipah palms before arriving at Bako Fishing Village. Board a motorized boat for a 30-minute cruise along the South China Sea coastline to reach Bako National Park. Proceed to visit the information and exhibition center for orientation and check-in at the Park's Guesthouse. Stroll round the compound may encounter monitor lizards, macaques and other wildlife. After lunch, proceed by trekking through mangrove forest to observe mud skippers and blue-fiddler crabs, Paku trail look-out for Proboscis Monkey, climb to the plateau which is home to various botanical delights and several species of the carnivorous pitcher plants. Notice the changes of the vegetation - mangrove, rainforest, kerangan and padang forest. Dinner and overnight in lodge.
Day 3 Bako National Park - Kuching
Early morning, go bird-watching along the Telok Assam Bay before returning for breakfast. Explore the eastern part of the park by trekking through the forest which boasts monstrous rainforest trees; indulge in bird watching and observe other wildlife. Journey back to the jetty, then by boat to Bako Village and return by car to Kuching.
Day 4 Kuching Cycling
After pickup from your city hotel, we take a 40 minutes drive to a century old historical town of Siniawan. Upon arrival at this one-street-village, a briefing will take place while sipping on a fresh cup of coffee or tea. We then hit the saddle and pedal into the historical gold mining town of Bau. Soon, we will head off-road to explore some hidden gold mines through some spectacular limestone karst landscape! We will proceed further to the majestic Fairy Cave filled with bats and impressive mountain chambers. After Lunch back in Bau town, we hit the saddle again to cycle one of the most scenic stretch of riding along the countryside back to the old town of Siniawan. After a tiring day of cycling, the bicycles will be loaded onto the transportation and you will be dropped off at your hotel in the late afternoon.
Day 5 Kuching - Batang Ai
Depart Kuching in the morning for a drive to the Batang Ai Hydro Lake. Enroute to the jetty, there will be four stopovers. The first one will be at Semenggoh Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre where you can spot these hairy creatures coming down from the treetops during feeding time. The second stop will be made at Serian (a predominantly Dayak trading town), followed by a visit to a Chinese farm house (to see how pepper and cocoa are grown), and at Lachau (lunch stop). The journey passes through scenic countryside of rice fields, rubber, cocoa, pepper and oil palm plantations, which intermingle with luxuriant tropical rainforest, rivers and mountain ranges. Upon arrival at the river jetty, proceed by motorized longboat for about 45 minutes, crossing the Batang Ai Lake, passing through scenic views, rice fields, fish farms to reach the Iban Longhouse. Proceed to the longhouse for a warm welcome, tour the longhouse, watch the natives at work creating local wares such as mats, baskets, handicrafts and mending fish nets. Join the natives in their daily chores, like feeding their livestock, washing clothes by the river or enjoy a swim in the 'floating swimming pool'. After dinner, socialize with the longhouse dwellers, witness cultural performances and presentation of gifts before retiring for the night at the guesthouse.
Day 6 Batang Ai
After breakfast, go trekking with the locals and the guide. Let the guide explain why the jungle is so important for the Iban. Learn about how the natives cultivate the land and learn about the flora and fauna. Spend the day exploring the jungle and in the afternoon, learn more about the culture of the Iban at the longhouse. Dinner and overnight at the longhouse.
Day 7 Batang Ai - Departure
Breakfast at the longhouse. At 08:30, depart by boat to Batang Ai Jetty, then proceed onwards to Kuching with lunch enroute. Lunch is served at a local coffee shop along the way. Arrive at the hotel in Kuching at approximately 1700hrs. Alternatively, be dropped of at the airport for a flight after 2000hrs.
